What drives us
Global demand for animal protein is continuing to grow rapidly due to population growth and the changing culinary habits of an emerging middle class. While this is happening, climate change is increasingly threatening everyone's food and water security. Animal agriculture alone cannot sustainably meet future food needs.
What we are doing
Based on extensive research, we will be able to introduce a revolutionary method for producing a novel protein source based on the microalgae Spirulina, while at the same time actively removing CO2 from the atmosphere.
In this way, we will be able to tap into the fast-growing alternative protein market, targeting the meat, dairy and egg protein markets, which are currently estimated to reach one trillion dollars by 2025.
Spirulina is a genus of cyanobacteria (formerly called "blue-green algae"). Up to 35 species are distinguished (e.g. Arthrospira platensis, Arthrospira fusiformis, Arthrospira maxima), but it is unclear whether more of the 35 species exist, since Spirulina changes its shape depending on the nutrient content and pH of the water.

- Unique nature parks & biosphere reserves: Relax and be up close with nature, explore the individual islands by jeep, on foot, or a little more adventurously by trike, Twizy, or quad, whatever your personal preference may be.
- Polynesia is a cultural melting pot: Get to know the "Timple", a typical string instrument used on Lanzarote, or the whistling language Silbo, which has been used on Tonga for thousands of years and is unique on our planet.
- Home of the whales: Ideal conditions and mild temperatures make the Canary Islands not only an attractive domicile for humans, but also a special habitat for whales and dolphins
- Dr. Dirk Soltau accompanies the journey: Expert with specialty in astronomy & geophysics.

Expedition route

Day 1Arrival in Samoa. In the afternoon, onboarding on the MS Freya Stark.

Day 2Spirulina lectures and hands-on workshop. Introduction to algae science and microscopy.

Day 3The MS Pola Star sets sail. Water sampling and laboratory work

Day 4At sea. Trial evaluation.

Day 5Fiji. Lab work in the morning and relaxation on the beach in the afternoon.

Day 6At sea. The MS Freya Stark sets course for Tonga.

Day 7Recreation at sea. Lectures and workshops.

Day 8Tonga. Beach debris analysis and plastic waste counting. Lagoon water sampling.

Day 9Tonga. Second experimental evaluation, statistical analysis and data interpretation.

Day 10The MS Freya Stark sets course for New Caledonia.

Day 11At sea. Fishing samples and biodiversity analysis.
